NZ Prime Minister, Helen Clark was full of praise for all
those involved in the Topoclimate project at a large dinner at the Ascot
Hotel in Invercargill on Wednesday 10th October 2001 to honour the success
of the project. Master of Ceremonies for the Evening, Tim Shadbolt, Mayor
of Invercargill told the audience of 130 invited guests that the project
had served as a useful catalyst for bringing the rural and urban sectors
of the Southland region together.
Mayor Frana Cardno of Southland District Council congratulated the Topoclimate South Trust and staff on the quality of the maps and reflected that she had received an independant opinion that the Topoclimate technologies were in fact world-leading and something that all Southland could be proud of. Certificates of appreciation were presented to all staff members and all Trust Board members in appreciation of their efforts by presenters Helen Clark, Mayor Mary Ogg of Gore, Mayor Juno Hayes of Clutha District and John Mathieson, Chairman of Environment Southland. Topoclimate South Trust Chairman Murray Ballantyne gave an illustrated talk on the detail of information now available to land users in Southland and suggested some practical ways in which the information could be used. Prime Minister, Helen Clark praised the regions efforts and reiterated her government's support for regional development initiatives based on the principles that the Topoclimate project had identified such as the need for strong partnerships and strong community buyin.
